On this course you will learn the skills needed to Crew on a Galway Hooker Sailing Boat. I was one of the participants of the first ever Hooker Crew Skills course in the city and cannot recommend the course enough. The course covers the history of the Galway Hooker, some of the folk tales handed down the generations and of course the practical skills needed to crew one of these iconic boats. It is a rear opportunity to meet the people keeping this unique and valuable heritage alive in Galway City. Plus you get to sail a Galway Hooker on Galway Bay!

COURSE DETAILS
Hooker Skills Training Course, with an additional module / visit to see our traditional sailboat restoration project: “The Lovely Anne”.
Course Starts: Tuesday 12th February.
Location: Claddagh Community Centre @ 7pm
Fee: €100 per person
Duration: 4 week programme
This practical four-week course is aimed at:
- Beginners who wish to become a member of our Galway Hooker Crew
- People who have a love of adventure & general interest in boating
- Or, seasoned sailors who wish to learn more about Galway’s traditional sail/ workboats
You will learn the essential information required to become part of our Crew, as well as discover the unique maritime history of these exceptionally beautiful traditional sail-boats.
