Original Framed Prints Of Galway Scenes – Meet The Photographer

GalwayExplored.ie was pleased to meet and spend time chatting with Pat from Pat O’Connor Photography on a recent trip to Galway Market.

Pat takes great photos and sells Framed Prints of them each week at the Galway Weekend Market.

A man after my own heart, some of Pats subjects include Traditional Galway Hookers and their annual appearance at Crinniú na mBád in Kinvara. Crinniú na mBád is one of my summer highlights every year. Crinniú na mBád is Irish for Meeting Of The Boats. Pat is happy to talk about how he takes his pictures and explained to me how he took a photo that I had incorrectly guessed was taken from a rib at sea. Pat told me the storey behind each photo that I had an interest in, which I really enjoyed.

Pats work also features the Omey Island Races. These races are held once a year on the beautiful beach that appears between Omey Island and mainland Galway when the tide is out. The Omey Races are held in early August and are really something precious even if you are not a regular race-goer. In truth I prefer these races to the more famous Galway Races for the sheer magic of the location but lets keep that between ourselves.

Galway City Prints Including Blackrock Diving Tower

Pat also has a great collection of scenes from around Galway City and it was these that were of interest to me on this occasion. Last summer I had a visit from family based in Pennsylvania in the USA. This included my 12 year old nephew Conor. It was one of those long, bright, warm, summer evenings and following a family meal we went for a stroll along the Salthill Prom. (Stop singing – it was the prom not the Long Walk, OK, the Prom is in the song too.) At the end of the prom is the famous Blackrock Diving Tower. Upon seeing the tower Conor ran back to the car, grabbed his swimming gear, ran back to the tower and jumped straight off no hesitation. This January it was Conor’s 13th birthday and to mark the occasion I thouht a picture of the tower to remind him of his trip to Galway was just the thing. Pat from Pat O’Connor Photography at the Galway Market took time to show me the various photos he had taken of the Blackrock Diving Tower and I settled on one I felt was just right.

Canvas Prints Of Galway Scenes Suitable For Posting

Pat frames his pictures and recommended a canvas print as it was more suitable for posting. No glass, not too heavy and just the right size. Pats photo is now winging its way to the USA as I write.

Thanks Pat, it was a real pleasure to spend time talking to you and I am certain Conor will love his picture.

Next time you are in the Galway Market make sure to find Pat, stop for a chat, admire his excellent work and buy one of his beautiful original prints. If you are on holidays a canvas print would be an excellent choice and you can post it home to save the trouble of carrying it around with you for the rest of your holiday. Plus don’t forget to tell Pat who sent you 😉 .
